The oil remediation industry utilizes natural and synthetic industrial oil sorbents, designed to recover oil in the final stages of spill clean-up.

Oil spills occurring on water and land have an adverse impact on the environment and on human health. They pollute drinking water sources, impact tourism, the fishing industry, marine life and the health of wetland ecosystems. They also have significant economic impact in terms of remediation and healthcare costs.

In Western Canada there have been at least 45 significant oil and contaminated water spills since 2011. Over time governments have enacted rigorous environmental protection and restoration policies to ensure responsible clean-up. Unfortunately, current industrial sorbents designed to mitigate impacts of oil and contaminated water spills are inadequate and pose major performance and sustainability challenges associated with secondary contamination, retrieval, storage and disposal. Without effective clean-up materials, remediation companies are faced with severe limitations.
